Steve Davies

Steve Davies is Peterson University's Trainer for Machines and Machine Systems, with 35 years of real world hands on experience in the industry. Steve has over 10 years of experience as a technical trainer, 10 years as a technical communicator and 12 years experience as a field technician.

Steve teaches tractor machine specific classes such as TTT, HEX, WHL, MG, TH/TL, and machine systems classes including Electrical/Electronics Systems, Hydraulics Systems, and Machine Power Trains. Steve also teaches CAT software classes such as SIS and ET.

Steve began his career with a 4 year apprenticeship with the CAT Dealer in South Africa, Thomas Barlow & Sons, where he also attended Advanced Technical Institute in Durbin, South Africa, earning his AA degree.

When Steve is not teaching his Interests and hobbies include, surfing, and other water sports, as well as remodeling his home.

Matt Torrence

Matt is a Technical Trainer at Peterson University with over 30 years of industry experience. He spent 14 years of his career at a local International Dealership and worked his way from technician to Shop Foreman during this time. From there, he began teaching courses for the Diesel Technology Program at Santa Rosa Community College. Shortly after, he embarked on what has been a 17-year journey with Peterson University holding positions as a Technical Communicator and Trainer.

Matt teaches International and Caterpillar engine courses such as engine electronics and engine diagnostics and repair. In addition, he instructs software-based classes for International’s Service Max and Diamond Logic Builder, and Caterpillar’s ET and SIS programs. Matt trains both Peterson employees as well customers.

He obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management from Santa Rosa Community College. He also attended University of California, Berkeley where he received a Single Subject Teaching Credential. Matt is also a Caterpillar Certified Engine Instructor.

In his free time, Matt enjoys woodworking, the outdoors, and riding his horses. He has also been a part of a 4H Camping Program for the last 46 years where he teaches a number of leadership courses.


Tom Bagwell

As the Executive Vice President of Peterson Trucks, Tom Bagwell is responsible for the operations of Peterson’s International Trucks Dealerships, Peterson Idealease, and the market development and branding efforts of all Peterson operating companies including spearheading Peterson University.

Tom began his career at Peterson in 2002 as the Marketing Manager of Peterson Power. In 2011, he was promoted to Director of Marketing for all of Peterson, and soon after, Caterpillar recognized his team as the Marketing Department of the Year. Tom holds memberships in a number of organizations and industry associations and has served on multiple development groups for Caterpillar and the Cat Dealer network.

Tom graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in economics and history and from the University of Chicago with an MBA in marketing and finance. From Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, he holds the title of Executive Scholar in Sales and Marketing and at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business is a certified Executive Coach.

Mace Gjerman

Mace Gjerman is the Technical Training Manager for Peterson University, with 35 years of industry experience, and 20 years with Peterson. Mace is currently teaching classes time management, Caterpillar component resuability, On-highway truck electronic engine parameters, and On-highway truck PTO wiring and parameters.

Mace Gjerman has a BA in Industrial Technology from Humboldt State University, and also has a California State Teaching Credential. Mace is CAT Certified as a small and medium Bore Engine and as a Truck Power Analysis Instructor. He is also certified in CAT Applied Failure Analysis Level I, and as a CAT 3600 Master Mechanic.

He is also the Chairman of the California State Board of Directors for SkillsUSA California.

With 45 years in the automotive and diesel industry makes his expertise valuable to Peterson University. His experience includes 4 years Teaching High School Auto Shop, 5 years with professional race teams as crew, crew chief, fabricator, and engine builder. In his 20 plus years with Peterson he has worked as an engine apprentice, engine technician, foreman, service manager, engine trainer, engine technical communicator, technical and training manager, plus 13 years in the training department.

He is passionate about his family and his hobbies include SCCA Road Racer, Civil War Reenactor, and scuba diving.

Dena Sieracki

Dena Sieracki is Peterson University's Training Development Coordinator. Dena has been with Peterson for ten years; she worked in the company's Commercial Engine division as a dispatcher and service supervisor before accepting her most recent promotion. Prior to joining Peterson, Dena worked in the general aviation industry selling avionics and managing the parts department at a local company.

Dena coordinates all aspects of training at Peterson, including web-based training, instructor-led training, and outside vendor training. She also develops and manages training and evaluation programs for Peterson's technicians, including trainees, journeymen, and master technicians.

Dena's hobbies include gardening, quilting, hiking and reading.

The Dealer Performance Center, offered by Caterpillar, and the OnCommand Education Portal, offered by Navistar, are online training portals are made available through dealer-affiliated training centers.
