In 2018, the student became the teacher when Shearer stepped into technical training as an en- gine and earthmoving trainer in Hillsboro. “I love working with my hands and working on ma- chines,” says Shearer, “and I also love teaching. It’s something I saw myself doing at some point in my career. I wasn’t sure I was ready to give up the tools when I applied for the job. But I still get to do that, just not on a daily basis. encourage people in my classes and ask them what their experiences have been because I can learn from them as much as they can learn from me. Sharing experiences between technicians helps ev- eryone out in the learning process.”
