Peterson people turned out for the September 10 visit from the bloodmobile at Power's offices. In all, about 30 donors from Power and Tractor did their part to help take care of the blood and plasma needs for the county. Coordinators Christina Alatorre, Alexandra Munoz, and Alyson McCaffery were concerned at first that Peterson would not make the minimum required number of donors, but in the end, everyone came through. It was a great turnout, and the team would like to thank all the donors.
One donation can go a long way. A single donation may be separated into several blood products to help treat up to four different patients with a variety of needs. Red cells can help patients with anemia, kidney dialysis, or surgical procedures. Plasma is needed for burn victims, patients in shock, or for those who suffer with liver disease. Platelets often go to leukemia or cancer patients, and cryoprecipitate (a component of blood obtained by freezing and thawing plasma) is needed for the treatment of hemophilia.
