water

At Peterson, most of our water usage comes from our washracks and watering our landscape, but there are still a few easy steps all stores can take to minimize water use in the office.

  • The simplest thing that all employees can do is report any leaks or other water problems (leaky faucets, toilets running, sprinklers that water sidewalks, etc.) to whomever is in charge of facilities or maintenance at your store. A dripping faucet leaking one drip per second wastes 200 gallons a year!
  • The most effective step to cut water use in the office is to install faucet aerators(flow restrictors) in restrooms or kitchen areas. Many older faucets use between three and seven gallons per minute while aerators can reduce water flow to 2.0, 1.5 or 1.0 gallons per minute at normal pressures. You can buy them at most hardware stores, home improvement centers, online, or at energy-conservation outlets. They typically cost between $0.50 and $3.00 and installation couldn't be easier. Aerators simply screw onto the faucet head, usually after removing the existing screen. That's it.
